The Acrylic Acid Polymer is acrylic acid, which is mainly produced by catalytic oxidation of propylene or acrolein in industry. It is a liquid with a melting point of 12?C and a boiling point of 142?C. It has a pungent odor similar to that of acetic acid. Usually, the polymerization is carried out in an aqueous solution state. Its polymerization rate in water is greatly affected by pH, and it is faster in acidic medium than in alkaline medium. The aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid PAA is a polyelectrolyte, and its viscosity changes abnormally due to pH, that is, when pH>7, the viscosity increases abnormally. This is due to the ionization of the carboxyl groups of polyacrylic acid to form negative ions, resulting in electrostatic repulsion, which makes the polymer chain in a relatively relaxed conformation in solution. Polyacrylic acid can be used as a thickener due to its high viscosity. Polyacrylic acid can be cross-linked with ZnO to generate so-called ionic cross-linked polymer, which is a new type of dental filling material.
